In my design of this chair I pursued the image and memory of a strong, transparent building. I sought a real “presence” which would also have a magical effect; it had to appear and vanish, to be seen tantalizingly close or hazily distant like the memory of a faraway echo. I wanted a physical object generated by light. By making the solids and voids created by the alternating tubing frame. That is how this object was conceived: its image is its structure and vice versa. (Mario Botta, 1984)
